Overview
About the Harsil Valley Monal Trail Trek
The Himalayan Monal (Lophophorus impejanus), the state bird of Uttarakhand, is known for its iridescent beauty and elusive nature. While it remains hidden during summer, winter offers an excellent chance to spot this magnificent bird.
However, heavy snow blocks the higher trails in winter—this is where the Harsil Valley Winter Monal Trail becomes the perfect adventure.
Situated close to Gangotri National Park, Harsil Valley is easily accessible from Dehradun and Rishikesh, making it a prime destination for birdwatchers, trekkers, and nature lovers. The Monal Trail starts from Purali Village and is a scenic 3 km hike through pine forests, snow patches, and pristine landscapes.
